Official notice: EASA CZIB-2026-09-R1 ↗ · in force until November 16, 2026

Airlines are told not to fly at any height over the west and south of Saudi Arabia, an area that takes in Medina, Jeddah, Taif, Abha and Jazan and runs to the border with Yemen. The advice names no exception, so it covers flights into and out of these airports as well as flights passing over.

European regulators tell airlines not to operate in this part of Saudi Arabia's airspace at any height. The area runs along the Red Sea coast from Jeddah, whose airport lies just inside its edge, up past Yanbu and inland around Medina, and south through Taif, Abha and Jazan to the border with Yemen. Missile and drone attacks by the Houthis, who are based in Yemen, reach deep into Saudi Arabia, and they raise the risk that a civil aircraft is mistaken for a target or hit by falling debris. Across the rest of Saudi airspace airlines are told to take care, apart from a second area like this one over Riyadh and the east.
