Official notice: EASA CZIB-2026-09-R1 ↗ · in force until November 16, 2026

Airlines are told not to fly at any height over Riyadh and the east of Saudi Arabia, an area that reaches the Gulf coast at Dammam and the border with Kuwait. The advice names no exception, so it covers flights into and out of Riyadh and Dammam as well as flights passing over.

European regulators tell airlines not to operate in this part of Saudi Arabia's airspace at any height. The area takes in Riyadh and the east of the country, from the Gulf coast at Dammam and Al Ahsa to the border with Kuwait. Repeated missile and drone attacks have targeted the Riyadh area, including its airport, and they raise the risk that a civil aircraft is mistaken for a target or hit by falling debris. Across the rest of Saudi airspace airlines are told to take care, apart from a second area like this one over the west and south.
