Kuwait has closed its airspace to flights passing overhead since 18 July 2026, and airlines are told to avoid it at every altitude. Flights to and from Kuwait itself still operate.
Why this level
European regulators told airlines on 14 July 2026 to stay out of this airspace at every altitude. The warning runs until 31 August 2026 unless it is renewed.

Kuwait shut its airspace to overflights on 18 July 2026 and has extended the closure to at least 4 August 2026. Planes may still take off from and land in Kuwait, but flights that would simply pass overhead on the way somewhere else are not allowed through and are routed around. Separately, European regulators told airlines on 14 July 2026 to avoid the country's airspace at any height until at least 31 August 2026. This is the strictest of the four Gulf warnings issued that week — the others are advice about airspace that remains open, this one is a door that is shut.
